Best Time to Visit Victoria Falls
February to May
Months to avoid: June to August (low water season, falls are reduced to a fraction of their volume on the Zimbabwe side)
Recommended stay: 3-5 days
Plan Victoria Falls for February to May. Give it 3-5 days. The window to avoid is June to August (low water season, falls are reduced to a fraction of their volume on the Zimbabwe side).
What the season gets you
- Devil's Pool at the lip of the falls, you float metres from a 100m drop with nothing but a rock ledge between you and the gorge, best accessed Sep-Dec when water levels allow
- White-water rafting the Zambezi below the falls. Grade 5 rapids through a gorge with walls that block out the sky, one of the most technically demanding commercial rafting runs in the world
- Peak flood season (March-April) when the full kilometre-wide curtain is thundering, you cannot photograph it because the spray ruins your lens, which forces you to just stand there
