Copenhagen
Denmark
The harbour smells like salt and rain even in summer, and cyclists outnumber cars on every street. Copenhagen is a city of low buildings and high prices, where the light in June hangs until 10pm and everyone seems to be eating open-faced sandwiches on a canal-side bench. The old coloured warehouses of Nyhavn are genuinely lovely and genuinely packed with tourists drinking overpriced Carlsberg.
