Our honest take
The falls themselves are genuinely awe-inspiring — the scale, the noise, the mist hitting your face on the boat tour. That part delivers completely. The surrounding town (Canadian side) is a strip of wax museums, chain restaurants, and neon signs that feels like Las Vegas without the charm. Ignore it. Stay long enough for the boat tour, Journey Behind the Falls, and the nighttime illumination, then drive 20 minutes to Niagara-on-the-Lake for excellent wineries and a proper meal. The Canadian side has far better views than the US side — if you're choosing one, choose Canada. One full day is enough for the falls; two if you add wine country.

- Helicopter tours — expensive ($150+) and over quickly. The boat tour gives a more immersive experience for a fraction of the cost

Airport, transport, and accommodation options
Good to know
- Stay behind barriers — the rocks near the edge are slippery from mist. People have died from falls
- You will get soaked on the boat tour — waterproof ponchos provided but protect your phone
- Border crossing: carry your passport even if staying on one side, in case you wander across the Rainbow Bridge
